Safe Kid = Worry-Free You = Happy Ride
If you're like our other satisfied customers, the real joy comes when you ride. With the PeaPod, you'll enjoy the journey much more knowing your kid is safe, up high in view of traffic, and closer to you (close enough for you to talk to each other). If you've ridden a regular bike with a child seat, you've probably come to expect unruly handling: the bike feels not only top heavy and about to fall over, but back heavy, too, constantly threatening to lift the front wheel. The long wheelbase of the sport utility bicycle changes all that. The extra length puts the child's weight more squarely between the wheels for ground-hugging stability that gives both (or all three) of you an uncompromising ride.
“In terms of maneuvering the bike through urban obstacles on a daily basis, I feel much safer having my son as close to me as possible. When I swerve to avoid potholes, stop abruptly, or otherwise have to navigate narrow riding space, all of which happens on a daily basis, I know that my son is literally in the same space as I am.”
Go Now, Go Anywhere, Go Safely
The harder it is to get ready to ride, the less often you do it. Once you've readied your kid for a trip, you shouldn't have to worry about getting the bike prepared. With an S.U.B., you're always a step away from the door with no bulky trailer to maneuver in the garage or hook up to the bike. And say you're picking up your child from school: you can ride across town on a rigid bike that rides like a bike, rather than towing an empty trailer that feels like “pulling a house,” according to one writer. Meanwhile, your in-line long wheelbase lets you dance around any obstacles the pavement throws your way, slip easily through crowds, fit on public transportation, and even ride on singletrack (like this mom). No looking back to see how far your trailer wheel is sticking into traffic, no worrying about curbs and rollovers, no need to lock two things when you reach your destination. Just car(e)-free fun with your kid, wherever and whenever the two of you decide to go. Read this for more details on how an S.U.B. compares to a bike trailer.
The PeaPod is approved under the strictest TUV safety standards*, and the soft cotton covering is easy to remove, washable, and 100 percent CFC free, keeping you, your child, and your world clean and safe. You can adjust the footrests to the length of your child's legs.

Safety Notes: To ride in the Xtracycle PeaPod, your child should be able to sit upright unattended and hold her head up while wearing a helmet. Generally this is true when the child is around a year old, but you should check with your pediatrician if you are in doubt about your child's neck strength. Some jurisdictions have laws requiring passengers on bicycles to be at least one year old. Children incapable of riding a bike on their own or under the age of 5 should not ride on the SnapDeck as passengers. Children should not ride as passengers without an adult operating the Xtracycle S.U.B. Your child, and you, should always wear a helmet.
*TUV The Xtracycle PeaPod™ meets or exceeds the requirements of applicable European Safety Norms for sale in the European Union, and these Safety Norms are stricter than comparable American standards. BoBike manufactures the PeaPod in the Netherlands.
