Open ended and expandable to swallow backpacks and guitars, they hang flat and out of the slipstream when not needed. Buckle configuration allows for over-the-top loading, too.
Mesh ends keep your tomatoes and flip-flops from getting lost. Made of coated nylon for durability and weight saving. Has two pockets on the inner panel: a large Velcro enclosed pocket for a rain coat, pump or sweater and a small mesh pocket for tools, coins, etc. The material (600d nylon with three layers of PU coating) is water and abrasion resistant.
The Freeloaders will hold about three grocery bags on each side. Or an expedition-size backpack. The mesh ends fold out of the way, so you can carry home that stuffed marlin you found on the side of the street.
2007 FreeLoaders now offered at a discount. Feature the ladder-lock style retention straps.
Pretty darn similar to the 2009 bag, with the exception of the retention system. The 07 retention straps are hard sewn to the FreeLoaders and loop around the FreeRad frame, back through an attached ladder-lock buckle. By cinching down on these loops, you can pull your FreeLoader taught (keeping your load out of your spokes). While a simple and durable system, it was far from intuitive or quick. As a result, we noticed over the years a lot of folks experiencing compromised performance when their FreeLoaders weren't pulled taught. So, for the 2009 FreeLoader, included in all 2009 Long Tail Kits and FreeRadicals, we updated these straps to hook over new braze-on mounts on the 2009 FreeRadical frame. They're a little simpler, a little quicker, and the net result is that more people will get more satisfaction from their Xtracycles when they load them up.
Get a couple 2007 FreeLoaders on clearance if you're:
a) Cheap, that's right, they're 30% cheaper, just as strong, and in short supply
b) Wanting to update your bags, but don't have a 2009 FreeRadical
c) A purist. These bags are strong and simple, and because you're just looping around the frame, there's really nothing to break or lose. How pure can you get?
